Chafee: 38 Studios back in default; seeking forensic audit
38 Studios is back in default on its $75-million loan because it didn’t give the state advance notice it was laying off its whole staff Thursday, Governor Chafee said at a Friday-afternoon news conference.
Right. They’re supposed to be providing jobs in exchange for that giant loan. I guess Curt forgot.
Chaee [sic] said he wants a forensic audit of the company. He said he is confident its records are secure, but wouldn’t say why he’s confident.
It’s about time.
NB: Does the Journal need some help copyediting? “Chafee” is way easier to spell than “Cicilline”, and they get that one right most of the time. It might be wise for journalists at the state’s paper of record to add the Governor’s name to their spellcheckers’ dictionaries.
The governor said he didn’t know at the time that Keith Stokes, his former economic-development director, had signed an agreement to let IBM submit oral reports monitoring the company’s status, rather than the written reports originally required.
Any way you can fire him again, Linc?
